Hitler had five siblings, but all died when they were young except for his younger sister, Paula. Both Hitler and Paula lived to adulthood and marriage. Adolf was born on Sunday, April 20th 1889.

Hitler had a disappointing childhood that followed him into adulthood. He grew up in the middle class, so poverty was not an issue until Hitler became a young adult. The thing that seemed to bother the young Hitler was that he could never live up to his family's expectations. Hitler’s father, Alois Hitler, was a man who always thought social status was important. This is why he didn't approve of Hitler becoming an artist. Hitler and his father never got along. As a child his father would beat him over disagreements. As a young adult Hitler and his father fought because Hitler wanted to go to art school and his father did not approve."Hitler fought bitterly with his father, who wanted him to enter the Habsburg civil service" ("Adolf Hitler: Early Years, 1889-1913"). Hitler might have gotten his rudeness and wickedness from his father. "Alois bought the coffin of his first wife while she was not yet dead" ("Searching for Hitler"). It was most likely a rumor, but if people thought this about Alois, he must have been a rude man.

But Hitler had a great relationship with his mother, Klara Hitler. After Alois died, Adolf convinced his mother to let him follow his dream of becoming an artist. She wanted him to be an engineer, but was understanding and gave him permission to persue his dream. Shortly after Hitler’s mother died he failed to get into the Vienna Academy of Arts. After the art career didn't work Hitler lived at homeless shelter until he ran out of his inheritance. He still refused to start his career in in civil service like his father and the rest of his family wanted.
